NOV 2004 - CHROMA KEY - GRAVEYARD MOUNTAIN HOME

PROGPOSITIVITY FEATURE SPOTLIGHT

NOVEMBER 2004

CHROMA KEY - GRAVEYARD MOUNTAIN HOME

Chroma Key - AKA Kevin Moore founding member of progressive metal legends Dream Theater.

This has more in common with Tortoise and Pink Floyd than anything Dream Theater has ever done.

Proving that inspiration can come from the most unexpected of places, GRAVEYARD MOUNTAIN HOME is essentially an "alternate soundtrack" to an educational social guidance film from the 1950's. Moore discovered the old film and immediately siezed the opportunity to write music with an increasingly cinematic approach. Not content to just write a 'normal' soundtrack, Moore proceeded to slow the film down to half speed. He then stipped out the original soundtrack and used the surreal video to provide the backdrop for his creative composition process.

ORPHAN PROJECT - ORPHAN FOUND

Orphan Found is the amazing debut by Orphan Project... Let me just say that if you like Neal Morse's Testimony, you'll love this one as well.
The Dutch Progressive Rock Page
http://www.dprp.net/reviews/200428.html#orphan

Powerhouse vocalist Shane Lankford put together this project, a heavy progressive concept album based on his own life story of being an orphan in search of his true identity. Despite the somewhat unsettling underlying theme of loneliness and the search for identity, Lankford's solid faith that he'll one day meet his Father infuses each song with pregnant expectation and spiritual fulfillment.

OCT 2004 - DIVINE IN SIGHT - SORROW & PROMISE

PROGPOSITIVITY FEATURE SPOTLIGHT
OCTOBER 2004
DIVING IN SIGHT - SORROW & PROMISE

http://cdbaby.com/cd/divineinsight

DIVINE IN SIGHT is a spiritual art rock trio from the American Midwest playing album-oriented, progressively influenced, dramatic art rock music. Our debut album, Sorrow & Promise, features and hour-long rock opera.

-----------

As far as I am concerned, the "Spiritual Progressive Art Rock Opera" that is SORROW & PROMISE surely deserves to take its place along side other classic concept albums such as Pink Floyd's The Wall and Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, even if on a smaller scale. It is a deep concept, and fully illustrated through the 11 movements or sections that make up S&P.

OCT 2004 - ADVENT - s/t

PROGPOSITIVITY FEATURE SPOTLIGHT
OCTOBER 2004
ADVENT - s/t

Advent is similar to Seldon's Inquisitor (see Sept 2004 Feature) in that the band Gentle Giant inspired band leader Alan Benjamin to compose and record this album. What it lacks in production value, it more than makes up for with intelligence, wit and strong compositions. A worthy addition to any Gentle Giant fan's music collection indeed!

TRIPOD - s/t

http://www.tripod-theband.com/f-reviewsold.htm

From AllMusic.com

ABSTRACT, CEREBRAL, ANGULAR, QUIRKY, CLUTTERED & JARRING

TRIPOD is a rarity: a rock band that has never used a guitarist and has gone out of its way to broadcast that fact.
The New York City-based threesome has, since the late '90s, been rocking loudly and aggressively without the use of a guitarist. TriPod's sound...is essentially built around horns (mostly sax), electric bass, and drums.

APR 2004 - PROTOKAW - BEFORE BECAME AFTER

APRIL 2004
PROTO-KAW - BEFORE BECAME AFTER

From Dave Taylor's excellent Prog Reviews at http://www.spiritualprog.com

In the early 70's, the band Kansas went through three large transformations. The sound of the band changed along with the the group members. The band the world came to know as Kansas was actually the third version of the band. Proto Kaw is the renamed, reformed second version.

Reviewed by Dave Taylor, November 2004
...If you are any kind of fan of early Kansas, this album really takes you back. Livgren's writing and guitar and keyboard playing are in top form. Lynn Meredith has a great voice, and this album really rocks in a most progressive way....From psychedelic and spacey, to obtuse and foreboding, to dynamic vocal hooks and blistering solos, Before Became After is far and away the most progressive new project Livgren has been involved with for many years, even eclipsing in some ways his return to Kansas with Somewhere to Elsewhere.

Review by Greger (Greger Rönnqvist) PROG REVIEWER
The music is a mix between the old 70's Kaipa and Camel, The Flower Kings, Genesis, Ritual and Yes with lengthy instrumental passages and talented musicianship. Although Hans Lundin is responsible for the main part of the compositions, they have a strong Roine Stolt/The Flower Kings feeling to them
